Chimney Sweep & Chimney Cleaning

Booking your chimney sweep is more important than you think. The regular removal of blockages, soot and creosote build-up is vital to boost the efficiency of your heating system and reduce the chance of chimney fires.

Here at Enviro-Flame, you can book your appointment using our online booking system, ensuring you can choose the most convenient day and time for you.

As it’s such a highly specialist service, you may be wondering, ‘is there a chimney sweep near me?’ Here at Enviro-Flame, we offer expert chimney sweep services to customers throughout London and Wimbledon. We use the latest equipment to remove these accumulated flammable blockages, leaving your chimney system clean, efficient and safe.

We recommend that you book a professional chimney clean at least once a year, possibly more, depending on the frequency of use or the type of materials you burn. We recommend a postseason sweep after winter, and another one right before you start to use your chimney once again. Our specialists can advise further on a case-by-case basis, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.

CCTV Chimney Survey & Chimney Inspection

Got a problem with your flue but aren’t sure on the specifics? Or perhaps you’re seeking an annual chimney inspection as part of general upkeep? Here at Enviro-Flame, our experts use the latest equipment to carry out a CCTV chimney survey for a quick, efficient assessment of your chimney and its current condition.

Our inspections will identify issues or obstructions early, spot blockages and can also help us advise you on next steps as well as when your next chimney clean should be scheduled for.

In addition to an annual chimney cleaning, chimney inspections should also be carried out at least once per year to ensure no underlying issues are left for too long.

What Happens During a Chimney Inspection?

So, what can you expect during a chimney inspection with Enviro-Flame?

We provide three levels of inspections:

  • Level One: A less thorough and less invasive exam. The reachable areas of your chimney will be swept and assessed, using basic equipment. A higher level of inspection may be advised based on the outcome of this one.
  • Level Two: This inspection will include the actions taken in level one, but with a more thorough assessment of other areas too, including the roof or attic. Cameras or other specialist equipment may be used in this assessment. It’s common to carry out a level two inspection during the process of buying a house.
  • Level Three: The most in-depth inspection of the chimney and associated areas. Usually, this is carried out if there is suspected damage or a major incident. As well as a thorough inspection and clean with specialist equipment, it may involve deconstruction of parts of the chimney. Remedial measures may be suggested too.

For more information on which level will suit your needs best, simply ask our team.

Chimney Sweep & CCTV Flue Survey - Frequently Asked Questions

How often should your chimney be cleaned?

Over time, soot and creosote can build up which can pose a safety risk. Generally, we recommend that your chimney is cleaned once a year for gas fires, and cleaned twice a year for solid fuel fires. We always carry out an integrity test as part of our service to ensure the flue is safe to use or if it needs relining.

How can I tell if my chimney needs cleaning?

There are a few telltale signs that your chimney is overdue a clean. These can include odours, oil spots appearing on your wall, a sluggish or inefficient performance from your fire, or signs that animals have taken up residence in your flue system or on your chimney.

Should I have my chimney swept before the installation of a new fire?

It is a Building Regulation to get an integrity test done to a chimney that is about to have a new appliance installed. This ensures your chimney is working correctly and your fireplace is operating to full capacity from the word go.

Signs that your chimney might be blocked

There are a few signs that your chimney could be blocked, including strange smells, the appearance of smoke backing up into your home instead of leaving as it should, or even your heating or hot water being affected. The best way to check if your chimney is blocked is to call the professionals at Enviro-Flame to diagnose the problem.

Do I need a chimney liner?

When you own a stove or a fireplace, except electric ones, it is recommended that you install a chimney liner for the purposes of safety, prevention of fume leakage into the home, and to protect the walls of your chimney or flue. The best way to check if a chimney liner is recommended to you is to ask a specialist for advice.

I only burn smokeless fuel. Do I still need to have my chimney swept?

Even if a fuel is smokeless, it will still deposit ash that needs to be swept away. This is recommended for the purposes of keeping your chimney safe and clean. Not regularly sweeping your chimney can increase the risk of chimney fires.

Why are chimney surveys so important?

Our chimneys are fairly mysterious and inaccessible areas of our home, and it can often be hard to keep on top of their condition. That’s why chimney surveys are so important, to monitor their condition and performance over time.

Chimney surveys can be used for:

  • Checking for flue damage
  • Provide evidence to insurance companies
  • In the purchase of new properties to check chimneys are in a safe condition
  • Many other purposes
